Tough times forge resilience in some, shaping them into rugged survivors. But for others, they can become crushing burdens, breaking the spirit of those unable to bear their share of the world’s weight. In Hasphal, a harsh land steeped in cruelty, even the strongest hearts can be shattered under its relentless strain.

In the shadow of the Dunep Mountains lay a quiet town called Vildred, watched over by a lawman named Terry. A steadfast protector, Terry was the town’s vigilant guardian, a man of unshakable honor who dedicated his life to defending the innocent. He faced danger head-on, often putting himself in harm’s way for his family and the people he loved. Bandits occasionally prowled the outskirts, seeking to steal children or raze the community. Terry met them without mercy, a wrecking force who fought with grit and ferocity. He bore the scars of countless battles: gunshots, burns, and knife wounds, all endured without faltering.

Over time, rumors began to spread throughout Hasphal. Whispers of an indomitable sheriff, a near-mythical figure guarding a vulnerable town, reached far and wide. Some called him a demigod, others a ghost, a reputation that made him a legend. But legends, as Terry would learn, draw powerful enemies.

The peace Terry fought so hard to preserve came to a violent end when a new threat loomed over Vildred. A sinister cult emerged from the shadows, drawing in the desperate and the lawless. Under its influence, the bandits united and formed a ruthless militia that sought to overwhelm even the “invincible” lawman. They struck like specters in the dead of night, their vengeance swift and merciless. Terry’s family became their first target.

That night, Vildred was alive with celebration. The village had reaped a bountiful harvest, and the air was filled with laughter, music, and the scent of roasted feasts. Terry joined in the festivities, drinking and eating to his heart’s content. But he was never much of a drinker. By the time the night waned, he collapsed onto his bed, dead to the world in a drunken haze.

When the cult of bandits struck, he never heard the screams. The village burned, terror filled the streets, and yet Terry remained motionless, lost in the depths of his stupor.

They ambushed his wife, abducting her as she tried to run home. Her cries pierced the stillness of the night, awakening Terry’s son, who grabbed a shotgun and rushed to her aid. The boy’s bravery was met with cruel finality; he was gunned down before he could fire a single shot. Terry woke to the sound, stumbling down the stairs only to find his son lying lifeless, weapon in hand. The sight froze him in place, his knees buckling under the weight of his grief.

But grief quickly turned to rage. Fueled by a father’s fury, Terry picked up his son’s shotgun and unleashed hell on the bandits. He fought with all the strength he had left, cutting down every enemy in sight. Yet it wasn’t enough. When the smoke cleared, his family was gone, his son dead, his wife taken and the town he had sworn to protect lay in ruin.

With nothing left to lose, Terry vowed to keep fighting. He gathered what little he could and set off in pursuit of the bandits, clinging to the hope that his wife might still be alive. Driven by sheer will and the flicker of hope in his heart, Terry began a desperate search, determined to bring her back or die trying.
Terry’s abilities stem from his sheer physical toughness, combat expertise, and unyielding determination. A master of close-quarters combat, he fights with brute strength and precision, wielding his shotgun and bare hands like extensions of his will. His resilience is legendary. He’s endured gunshots, burns, and stab wounds, gritting his teeth and pressing forward no matter the cost. Known for his fearlessness, Terry confronts danger head-on, taking on overwhelming odds with sharp instincts and relentless resolve. His reputation as an “invincible sheriff” precedes him, inspiring hope in his community and striking fear into the hearts of his enemies. Driven by an unbreakable will to protect those he loves, Terry’s true power lies in his ability to keep fighting long after others would falter.

Originally created for a friendly competition between Yin & Rell to see who can get a game done faster (spoiler alert: none of the games were finished). We gave ourselves 3 months. Yin was making a western fantasy RPG and Rell was making a full fledged fighting game. Terry was one of the 3 (at the time) main characters of Lunaris. He had the tragic story of hitting the ultimate rock bottom.
